$800 to change latch mechanism. Going back to buying imports. Cars been a money put the last 6 months with only 64,000 km (40,000 miles).

I have the exact same issue and there is no chance it is the latch mechanism. It unlatches and opens one inch. It is either the motor, motor communication or the lift rod. I removed the lift rod and I can manually open and close it with no issues. The motor is either not turning or there is a communication issue. I have already done the reset as per the manual and changed the motor, but it still doesn't work properly. Unfortunately, Ford changed the motor and you can only get used ones from totalled vehicles.
