Hi everyone!
My wife and I test drove a 2012 Flex Limited Ecoboost today with 87k miles. I had been trying to get her to test drive it for about a month and she kept refusing because she hates the look of it (and so does my 10 year old daughter). However, today we were test driving another vehicle at the same dealership and we ended up not liking it so I decided to try out the Flex since I had been eying it up for a while. When I got back she saw the huge smile on my face and caved and drove it herself, and now we're probably going to buy it on Monday.
After driving it, all I have to say is WOW. I already loved the look (I've loved these things since they were first released), but after driving it I'm even more enamored with it. This thing has great power and handles far better than I expected. We live in the mountains of Southwest Virginia so I got to try it out on some twisty mountain roads and it exceeded my expectations there, too. I wasn't expecting it to handle as well as it did. It's obviously no Miata, but it makes our 2023 Subaru Ascent feel like a lifted school bus in comparison.
It does have a few flaws, such as a broken center console lid latch, a cracked gauge cluster window, and the rear power liftgate seems to lift slower than it should, but other than that it's in really nice shape and has been serviced at the same dealership its entire life.
We're going to give it one final look-over on Monday before buying, and I'm going to ask for the service records to see what's been fixed/replaced over the years. I'm also going to see if they'll put it on a lift so I can take a look at the undercarriage and check for leaks as well check out suspension and steering components. Is there anything else you guys recommend looking at/for?
