Hey folks, I have to replace the lateral link (toe link) on my Flex (#19 in the diagram below), and of course, to add insult to injury, the nut that is housed in the control arm is spinning, and there is barely any room to access it, to get a socket or wrench on.
If I go all out and manage to get it out/off (Air chisel the nut, etc or something), I was thinking of replacing it with a standard 3.5" Grade 8 or 10 bolt and nut/lockwasher.
Ford sells the replacement bolt (W706482-S442, M12x90) but there is no listing for the nut.
Does anyone have any tips for getting this SOB nut out/off when it free-spins? Can't use a torch because of the proximity to the gas tank, and I *REALLY* don't want to drop the tank.
I had a crazy idea to make matters easier when reassembling, I was thinking of sacrificing a cheap wrench, cutting it in half and welding it onto the nut, with the handle hitting the edge of the access hole, to stop it from spinning, and not having to worry about this happening again down the road.
Desperate for any input, suggestions or outside-the-box ideas.
Thanks!
