Here is something simple to try that worked for me:
I have a 2011 Flex Limited with a single CD/DVD player in the dash, factory Nav. system and large display. My AV system has been working perfectly all these years. A few days ago I resubscribed to SiriusXM, and they sent my audio unit an activation signal by satellite. The next day when I tried playing a CD it failed, giving me the dreaded "Bad disc or unrecognizable format" message on the display. I went to work trying to fix it:
-I tried several different CDs, both new factory original recordings plus CDR mixes recorded by me back in the ancient times. Same negative result every time.
-I tried rebooting the software system: no go.
-I inserted a dozen CDs rapidly: no go.
-I disconnected the negative battery cable for fifteen minutes, then reconnected it: no go (by the way, this successfully reset and restored my climate system last year when the blend doors went wonky).
-Finally, I inserted a factory recorded DVD disc instead of a CD. The player made some unfamiliar whirring noises, then the DVD movie started playing on the dash display. Wow!
I then tried all the CDs that previously failed to read, and now they all worked. Somehow inserting a DVD instead of a CD disc reset the player. All for $0.00 out of pocket expense. I am smiling again!
Flexes seem to have some oddball quirks with simple solutions like his. If you are experiencing the same problem that I did, you might first want to try inserting a DVD disc instead of a CD.
