Powertrain / Under The Hood • 2013 RELAY Problem/Question

Can someone with a 2013 (or corresponding version) please look in the engine power box and tell me what relay you have in the #44 spot? Also, I've seen different part numbers online for that relay, so please tell me if it's a 4 blade or 5 blade.

Situation: 2013 Flex Limited Turbo. Back in Nov had issues with the wipers. I replaced the #44 relay for the washer and that seemed to fix it. Ordered the relay from Ford and received a 4 blade relay with part # GU5T-14B192-GA. I had given my VIN# at the parts desk, and they said this is the new replacement for the factory part.

Few months later, noticed the front washer pump stopped working. Front/Back wipers work. Rear Washer works. (one pump just changes directions of flow for front/back). No sound from pump for front.

Changed out Stalk/Multiswitch. Changed out pump, by hooking up new factory pump, same issue. Swapped out the relay with another factory 4 blade. Tested the wiring harness to pump. When grounding to the frame, alternating current to front/back like expected. When testing +,- terminals on pump with voltmeter, only the rear is getting 12 V. When reversing terminals, no power for front pump. Note: tested the new pump in a buck of water with direct 12V to terminals and then switched polarity. Left/Right works as it should.

Finally took it to the Ford shop. Shop says, "bad pump". I say, already did that, it's a ground issue somewhere. They re-diagnose,, and come back and say, "bad relay, we fixed it." $500 bill. Yes, $500 for 2 faulty diagnosis and a $33 relay, which may be only a "bypass" to the problem stated.

So here is the kicker... I am 99.9999% sure slot #44 factory relay is a 4 blade, part 8T2T-14B192-AA. Just about every relay in there is the same part number, and a 4 prong. The only BA 5 blade is for the 2 speed fan. When I got the car back, they had put in a 5 blade relay in slot #44.

I have only replaced TWO relays in my car, one was from the rear seats and one was from #44. I have both the bad relays with a big ol "X" drawn on them, so i know they are bad, sitting in a box. So, there is NO WAY I could have pulled a 5 blade relay, and then lost it, and then somehow the other bad 4 blade morphed into another bad 4 blade in the box.

BUT... I have found TWO photos online of power boxes for this car, and BOTH have the BA (5 blade) relay in spot #44, so now I'm totally confused. Their part numbers are different, but the BA is usually a 5 blade from what I've found.

So... what goes in the washer relay #44?????????????
BONUS QUESTION... if #44 is factory 4 blade... WHY would putting a 5 blade solve (really just bypass) the problem, of only the front washer not working???

I even bought a new 5 blade BA (40amp factory) relay and tested that in slot #44 and that one works too.

This car seems to have electrical gremlins. Only 23K miles, (my old man's car) and I've had to replace the blown 3rd row seat relay and now the #44 relay. Also, it's having that issue where when you turn off the engine, you can't listen to the radio b/c the car thinks the batter is low on juice and it goes into power saver mode. Read about the temp fix of unplugging that little sensor coming off the neg terminal on the battery, restarting for 30 sec, turning off, reconnecting that plug, and it fixes it (for about a week or so). Not sure what's causing that, maybe a faulty ground coming off the battery. At this point anything is possible. Also, the rear parking assist stopped working last year. No clicking from any of the sensors, so figured it was the Module in the pillar. That at least was confirmed with the diagnosis the other day.

I know this is a lot, but if someone can just tell me what the relay is in #44, 4 or 5... I'll at least know if I've lost my mind/memory. I can work on the rest later.

Ps.. called the online Ford store and they can't tell me what goes there. Called another local Ford dealership and talked to parts... they said they have no way to look up what goes in that #44 slot. They can only replace what part # you give them. Tend to doubt that.
