Been having a binding/grinding noise at low speeds for a few weeks now, only at low speeds and only once the drivetrain is good and warmed up (like 30 minute on the freeway). Two different mechanics agree it's the rear differential. One quotes $4k for a new unit installed (I'm not sure where he's finding a new unit, tbh - looks like those are hard or impossible to find), and one quotes $1.4k for a used unit with fairly high mileage. Anybody know how rare or how common it is for these units to fail? I'm obviously leaning towards the used one, especially if they tend to hold up pretty well over the long term. Vehicle is around 136k miles and I'd like to get it to 200 or more....
