Morning all,
I've got a 2013 SEL, Non Eco-boost, keyfob built into the key. About a year or two ago, it started giving me cranking issues, key would turn, dash lights up, all indications, but nothing once you go to "start". Some on/off with the key a few times and general jiggling around would finally get it to start. I eventually replaced the switch behind the knee wall and that seemed to clear things up, this was about a year when I replaced the switch.
Fast forward to yesterday, it was a fairly warm day, easily over a 100 in the car after it was parked in the sun. Key goes in, dash lights up, nothing at start position. on/off several times, general jiggling of the key yielded nothing. Finally while the key was in the start position, I pushed the key towards the floor, NOT "into" the ignition, but straight to the floor, and it cranked.
Now following day it cranks easy on first try, though in the garage not in the sun. I looked behind the knee wall and the switch still seems to be tight and in the proper place, but the barrel with the key in it, seems to wiggle more than I'd like to think is normal.
I'm not quite sure how the barrel connect to the switch other than a arm that basically turns the switch once the key unlocks the barrel.
My questions, the replacement switch last year was off brand, not motorcraft, guess it could be that again?
But if I wanted to or needed to replace the barrel, does that mean new keys, and hence new door barrel as well? or do the barrel replacements come with some way to key them to your existing keys?
Thanks,
KC
