Powertrain / Under The Hood • Codes P0012 and P0022

I am periodically getting these codes on my 2009 Flex LTD FWD. It usually shows up after a fairly long drive (75-100 miles). It still seems to run ok, but on initial start If i use the remote start someone had on it before I bought it, and I am close enough, I do hear what I consider chain noise (like I used to hear on Mercedes V8s when I worked at a dealership).

Question comes, is there an easy way to find out which timing chain type is in my engine? I have seen several possibilities looking at Rock Auto. I have the cam timing locks for it, and a recommendation from a former Ford technician on parts brand including a new water pump.

Should I bite the bullet and take it to the dealer for diagnoses first?
