Powertrain / Under The Hood • Trouble finding "D" Drive gear

Hello all!

Just acquired a 2016 Ford Flex SEL AWD, 130k miles, after finally letting go of my 2009 with 270k miles.

The only issue I have found with the car in the past few days since owning it, is when shifting into "D", there is a tiny bit of play in the shifter, and the "D" on the dash/tach doesn't light up.

Well, let me correct myself, it SOMETIMES lights up, if I really pull the shifter down, almost into S mode, the "D" lights up. But while in gear, if i put forward pressure on the shifter (towards N), the D light on the dash goes off.

That being said, while driving, the car shift phenomenally. It just seems to be having the initial issue of "locating" Drive, and I have to sort of give it a little wiggle when shifting into drive. This morning, after backing out of my driveway, I put it into what I THOUGHT was drive, and sat there revving for a second. After the wiggle, the car settled into drive, but the "D" light was not lit.

Unsure how to address this. Shift cable? Sensor? Transmission about to fall out and explode?
