Hey everyone. Been trying to find time to register here and finally had a free minute.
So my wife’s flex is a 2016 SEL AWD. It recently developed this intermittent clunk in the front end, I just spent 5 mins doing full steer and light steered donuts at the end of my drive trying to figure out what makes it clunk. It’s so intermittent that u can’t find what exactly is causing it.
So far all I’m finding is it happens when turning right. Seems to not matter if you’re coasting or under power. I got the donuts up to 10 mph . Still heard it. I’ve had the car in the air, inspected the entire suspension, ball joints, bushings, tie rods, sway bar, the works. It really sounds like a suspension noise, to me, my assumption, when you turn the wheel right, it’s working on the strut bearing and creating this noise, some days it’s worse then others and some days not at all. I did several donuts to the left and it doesn’t make any noise at all, only to the right.
The only other thing I found is the left axle shaft has about a 1/16” in and out play. But that seems to mimic the passenger side.
Thoughts?
Now, the previous owner ditched this car last year. The right front fender was replaced, right front lower control arm, he apparently replaced both struts, even though one had surface rust on it, but the tops of both have new nylock nuts and the studs through the strut towers look new as well. I’ve checked all them nuts and they seem to be tight as well.
