Decided to move on from the 2 ohm Kappas. I don't think the factory system can handle the 2 ohm and I've read others find them too bright which aligns with my experience. I never put effort into the high end as most systems have more of it than my ears can handle. A small sub is enough for my low end so my focus is finding some healthy mid-bass. I believe it was someone here on FordFlex.net that went with JBL Club series and was quite happy. And at 3 ohms I'll be able to get a little more out of the factory HU or an amp later if it's needed.
I haven't been happy with the fact I can hear the music so clearly OUTSIDE the car with the doors shut, even with the factory speakers at very moderate volumes. I'm in the process of learning about the various products available that might prevent other people from having to suffer with my taste in music. There's no way I have the time to totally Dynamat the doors so I've been exploring all the options for the poor & lazy man. I only have small windows of time available that line up with the current New England weather so I got the passenger door skin off and popped a Boom Mat baffle behind the factory speaker just to see what it would do. As others have complained, it killed way too much mid-bass. I gradually cut openings in the back to gain air movement but it did almost nothing to bring back the mid-bass and I can still clearly hear the music outside the car with the doors shut. I may tape the baffle back together and install in the rear doors that are more for fill anyway and add a square of sound deadener just behind the speaker on the outer sheet metal to see if that helps with the sound bleed outside the car.
So now I'm looking into if Fast Rings or those silicone baffles will help with the mid-bass in the front doors as well as help cut down on the sound bleed. I have a hard time believing a foam disc will quiet what's heard outside the car so maybe adding a square of sound deadener behind the speaker will at least cut down on it and still save me the time & effort of a proper door sealing.
