My 2010 Limited Flex has had several issues with rocks or other debris moving between my breaks and rotors, something I am sure all Flex owners have experienced at one time or another.
I found driving quickly in reverse to be the free fix to the high-pitch, metal-on-metal squeal as it dislodges whatever the culprit is; sadly, on Thursday, July 18, 2024, I replaced both of the struts, strut links and a wheel alignment all done by my reputable mechanic. I understand exactly how to do the fix for the struts; however, I do not have the tools or garage space to do the work myself; plus, one might say I am whipped because when my wife says: “No” to buying tools, I listen,
I have not been anywhere near pea gravel, etc.
Today, on the way home from work (approximately 40 kilometres), I had to listen to the horrid noise for the entire ride, and driving in reverse has done nothing to remedy the issue.
As a Paramedic/Wildlands Firefighter and an Artillery Soldier, my Flex has always been a rockstar by getting me from one place to another, and with 332,000 kilometres on the engine, all I have had to do besides oil changes was repair the timing belt a tremendous job as you may know, and $5000.00 later, my wannabe pick-up Man Van was working perfectly, and now the struts which came out to $1400.00. I will never know why some people hate the Flex. I lucked out, I guess, and did not get a lemon for a Man Van.
Does anyone have thoughts on what the noise could be if it is not a rock or a rotor deglazing issue?
