A couple of days ago, I took my 2011 Flex SEL non-ecoboost to a private individual for an oil & filter change. I think the manual states the engine oil capacity as either 5.3 or 5.5 quarts. I wasn't paying close attention while this happened, but afterwards, I realized that he had put the entire 6 quarts (one 5 qt jug, plus a 1 qt container) into the engine.
I drove it home, no seeming issues. Yesterday morning, as i backed out, I happened to notice a spot of oil on the driveway, maybe about the diameter of a large coffee cup. A while ago, without starting the engine, I rolled it back a little, and there is a 6" x 2" spot of oil. Previously, this person has done oil changes on all three of my vehicles, and has been very careful about wiping off all surfaces. I haven't had one single spot or drop from oil.
I wonder if what I'm seeing is due to the overfilling of a half quart of oil. In my mind, that doesn't seem like enough to cause a leak. But, I am seeing oil on the ground. One other thing that is different this time - I purchased a Motorcraft filter. Previously, I bought a Mobil-1. I don't really think that the filter is the source of the leak, either.
I'm asking for opinions here. I haven't yet brought it to the attention of the person who changed the oil. Thanks in advance for your input.
